So Saturday saw Storm Hunters, which was supposed to be run as: Tes, Ronnie, Roxy, Macdui and the Rotties as reserve. Unfortunately on Thursday night Macdui got a tummy bug and was still poorly on Friday, so with the amount of racing we would be doing, we decided to pull him from the team and run the 5 dogs we were left with. First race of the day we ran Kane, Ronnie, Roxy and Tes, for whatever reason Roxy decided she couldnt possibly do a full leg and ran out every time, so we of course lost that first race. we then went and got Honey and managed to win all but one race, putting us in third place for the DE.
In true Honey style she seemed seriously unimpressed at having to run again and her times dropped dramatically, which left us with the option of running Roxy, who had been doing two minute warm ups all day, would she do it right? Oh yes! From there on she ran paw perfect, but having lost the first DE race, we were straight down the losers race which meant a LOT more racing was to be done! The second to last race was against Ready 2 Rock, who had not lost a race and if we beat them once we would have to do it again, which would mean winning the division! Kane was seriously flagging and we knew there was no way we would win the race with his times, so we took a slightly risky decision and ran Honey as first dog, which meant Katherine had to "hide" Ronnie from hr and sneak him in as she came out! This worked great and we won that leg, we repeated the combo and won again., but only just as Honey had clocked what we were doing and "stalled" as she came out of the lane! So for third leg Kane was back in and ran like a trooper, (clearly miffed that Honey had taken his place!) Which meant we would need to race Ready 2 Rock AGAIN! First two leg we ran Kane and only JUST beat them, so Honey was back in as lead dog, unfortunately one of the opposing dogs came over and interfered which meant we won the race on interference. BUT it also meant we won the division! This was by far the most exciting, tiring and difficult days racing I have EVER had, but my goodness it was THRILLING! Tes and Ronnie ran every leg that day, which meant a staggering 39 legs!!! Roxy got her Flyball Dog Award and the Rotts did their very best bless them.
Sunday saw chasers and starters racing.
Chasers (Jasmine, Roi, Mia, Inca), ran really well in the Round Robin. Little Jasmine ran as start dog and absolutely loved it, not faltering on her times at all, so perhaps this is her calling?! We placed second having been beaten only by Allstars. We then went on to Double elimination and were in for a repeat run of Saturday, losing the first race and going down the losers route again! We lost the first race as Inca decided to have a "special" moment and watch her opposing dog run whilst doing her own run, so we lost all three legs. We were next in against Wilmslow who were running slower than us, so did three clean legs and won. Next we raced Cheshire Set, took them to 5 legs and just beat them, which again meant we were against Allstars who were running much faster than us and if we beat them once we would have to do it again! Unfortunately Inca once again had a little "head pop" and thought about chasing one of their dogs, she still went down her own lane but with a huge changeover, one leg we lost cleanly and the third Darryl got a double false start and Mia dropped her ball, so Allstars took the division and we came away with a respectable 2nd place. During the days racing we beat our seed time not once, but three times! 17.87, 17.84 and 17.82! So an excellent days racing overall!
Starters saw Paddy, Billy, Gypsy and Mylo also taking a first place! This was Mylo's racing debut and he ran PERFECTLY all day, full of life, full of confidence and raring to go, even managing a couple of changeovers! They won every race and fully deserved their win.
By far the best weekends racing any of us have ever had!!
Absolutely buzzing from all the excitement and looking forward to future races!
