Well, where do I start?! After what seemed like forever; outdoor flyball had finally arrived and what a way to kick off the season!
Friday was Starters, we had Harry, Calluna, Amber, Chance, Lyriq and Lexi. The first four named dogs ran paw perfect virtually all day, bar the last race when we had a couple of minor headpops, Lyriq and Lexi did great using the warm up time and even put in a couple of legs each when we were against an empty lane! The team came second, being beaten only by one team, who had also ran unbeaten all day. Huge well done to them all
Sunday we had the two Open teams: Chasers and Hunters
We started the day with Hunters; Kane, Skye, Neville and Tes, joined by Harry and Chance, making their Open debuts! First race in things were a bit "all over the place" and they lost, second race they did much better, heads were screwed on and they went on to win.
Special mentions to Skye and Emily, this was Skyes first outdoor competition and as such, there are a LOT more distractions and for little Barbie brains it takes a lot of effort and concentration to run all day, so huge well done to them both!
Harry and Chance did fabulous in the warm ups, not a single blip, and as they were doing so well, we put them in for a few legs each and they did us proud! Both Harry and Chance will now have their first flyball points and it really wont be long until they are running as part of a four dog team!
Hunters won only 2 races of 5, but so did a lot of the other teams, which with our fastest time of 20.65 put us in second place
Chasers had a much better day than I expected them too. Sadly first race in things went wrong, wrong, wrong! Jasmine ran out on three occasions, and we also got lights for being early, completely threw it away as we were much faster on times, these things happen! After Jasmine decided she didn't like Winchester, we decided to change the order completely and run Inca start, this would have gone REALLY well if she would actually run in a straight line, rather than stopping to bark at Winchester (her favourite team mate!) we kept Inca start as she doesnt tire and I did manage to get some reasonable times out of her.
Calluna and Summer were down to use the warm up times, to get them used to the atmosphere and running without netting, they both did great, Cally had a couple of tiny headpops, but actually did 100 times better than I expected her to, so big well done to them both!
Some big changes for that team and handlers and dogs coped excellently, Inca first time running starts instead of last, and didn't spit her ball all day! Also was quite nice when she actually tried and ran 3.75 seconds!! (perhaps thanks to the Damiana and Kola from Dorwest!) Gail also had a lot to cope with, having only ever run as start, managed some excellent change overs and Digby doing 4.06! Winchester ran the best he ever has done, hardly fumbling at all! And Jasmine, well, she was Jasmine, once she realised she was running into Inca she was much happier and ran paw perfect all day. Team came second and had a fastest time of 17.30! NOT too shabby for a first time out!
Monday was Mulitbreed day, Storm Dynamix; Kane, Skye, Rodney (GSD borrowed form Carry On's), Tes, Inca and Mia
This was a mixed day, Skye had already run her little socks off the previous day and didn't trigger the box every time, as we had inca we simply shared the pace to keep Skye fresh, which worked really well! Mia also got to do a few legs as Tes (who is a very particular girl) wasn't keen on running into Rodney, so ran out a few times. Overall they all did extremely well; asking brand new dogs to run on two consecutive days is a big ask, Skye and Tes did fantastically and I couldn't have asked for more! Team came third, shame as four 2nds's would have been lovely!
Off to Epworth Showground on the 20th, where Bracken will be making her come back!!
