We had three Open and one Starter team entered for this tournament and Billy making his Open debut with Storm seekers.
Saturday first saw Storm Hunters in the ring; Roxy, Ronnie, Kane and Honey. This line up is to be the permanent set for the team and the first time they have run together all day. They were on a seed time of 20.40, which they had gained with Mia (collie) ! didn't think they would be too far off the time so didn't declare... how wrong was I?! The team got absolutely slaughtered, only winning one race in the whole division and gaining a best time of 21.11. Still, they ran really nicely together, Honey relishing running into her brother Kane and Roxy finding her feet as start dog. Well done to all and hopefully some more suitable racing to be had next time!
Sunday was a somewhat busier day! Starting with Starters, then ring party, straight in with Seekers, then back in with Chasers, so we didn't get a minute to ourselves!
Starters ran exceptionally well, not a single fault with any of the dogs all day and very importantly we had little Tilly managing to complete a couple of legs for the first time with her new team mates. Mylo was faultless, Skye has started to pick up speed, Paddy was perfect as usual and Kai was the most focused I have seen. They came away with a third and I was more than happy with their achievement.
Next in were Seekers, this team has never run together before and Billy was to make his Open debut, along with help of Kimba, who is making his way back into racing after a long break. The team consisted of: Winchester, making fewer and fewer fumbles every time he runs and making an excellent start dog, Billy, who ran like he had been doing this his whole life, tight changes both ways, not even an eyelid batted, Kay kept her cool all day and Billy gained his Flyball Dog Award on his first outing, VERY well done! Next in line was Mia, who is now the teams height dog, gaining an easy 13" which is handy, she had no issues as expected and seems to be making some improvements with her box turn, Kimba ran a few legs and seems quite steady and happy over higher jumps, so a good start back for him and lastly Tes, running last dog ran paw perfectly and Karen managing some cracking changes! A third overall for the team, not brilliant but more than adequate for their first time out together!
Last of the day were Chasers, being joined by another new team member, Bracken, she was running start dog and ran well all day. For one reason or another none of the dogs did anything spectacular that day, Inca was running mid 4's all day, Bracken around the same, though this is to be expected with a new team and new box, Jasmine doing her usual 4.4's and Roi doing mid 4's with a few below which is great to see! Chasers were placed 5th, unsurprising seeing as the team had not run together in that combination before. Much faster times to come from them, watch this space!
