Not really sure on where to start with this one. This was our one year Anniversary weekend, we had a little party planned and two open plus a starter team entered. Nothing could have gone more perfectly to mark our first year as a competitive team.
Saturday we had all three teams in, starting with starters. Calluna was making her debut and was a little star! Yes she was distracted by the other lane and forgot what she was supposed to be doing a couple of times, but overall she ran brilliantly, doing her mum and the rest of the team proud. Amber having now done a number of starter competitions is really starting to look like an old hand at it, just need to get that pesky box work sorted and it really wont be very long until she is racing in Open. Kai is continuing to remain focused and reliable, Skye also taking it all in her stride and running perfectly all day. We have gained a new team member this weekend, Sandra, with her two spaniels, Summer and Neville. Summer joined us in the starter team and ran beyond everyones expectations! The team came third and I could not be more proud of them.
Seekers have been having a really tough time of it lately, dogs going lame or running out, has meant they havent been able to complete a full days racing in a little while. However, although they still had a couple of blips, Mia running out, Billy being lame and replaced by Kane, they did manage to race all day, got some points under their belt and even managed to win a race despite running almost a full second slower than their seed time.
Lastly we had Chasers, we started off the day by annihilating our seed time (17.30) with a new time of 16.81 which puts us in the "Top Ten" of the country! I will admit being close to tears when I saw the time, and this was just the first leg of the day. We then did 17.00 and then 17.14 so fairly consistent. We had no intention of getting a time like that, as we were in Division 2 so stood a fair chance of winning the division so long as we kept our cool and ran clean... turns out when we run clean we kick butt! We even managed to win the division, losing only one race and two other teams in the same position, so it went down to fastest time, which thankfully was ours. So not only did we go sub 17 but Chasers team gained their FIRST first place rosettes!
We also had a party in the evening, to celebrate our anniversary, the team got together (behind our backs I might add!) and presented Darryl and I with the most beautiful gift, a book containing pictures of the team, thank-you's from every member and wonderful memories from our first year, I will admit I bawled my eyes out. Never did I imagine how much impact this flyball business would have on their lives. I truly do feel like the luckiest captain in the country, I have THE best team and love them all dearly. So here is to another successful year with you all!
