Welcome to our new site! We already have lots of news and lots of things to look forward to!
Our first training session took place on the 24th of Sept 2011, we always have two separate times for training, the first, for complete beginners and for those who do not wish to compete in the sport, but would like something fun and different to do with their dog, the second group is for "Team training" for people who are competing on a regular basis, in this we improve dogs times, turns and the handlers skills. There is much to be learnt in flyball both for dog and owner!
Our first ever session saw over 20 dogs arriving! Not something we had anticipated, luckily on the team there are 4 experienced flyballers who helped everyone to understand the basics and got their dogs off to a flying start! We had, amongst others, a Beagle, Labrador, Weimeraner, Manchester Terrier, Springer Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, Flat Coated Retriever, Working Sheepdog, Bull Mastiff and a few crossbreeds, what a turnout!
On the 10th October we gained Sponsorship from the lovely people at Dorwest Herbs, I am an absolute firm believer in using herbal remedies and keeping your dogs' medicines as natural as possible, unless it is absolutely vital I have always avoided using commercial drugs and chemicals with my dogs. Over the next week or so our team members will be trying some of their products on their own dogs, mine included and we will let you know the results, watch this space!
In the few weeks we have been running as a team we have managed to train a few dogs to a high enough standard that they will soon be ready for their first "Starter" tournament. In Starters the rules are not quite as strict, though the dogs must still go over all four jumps and bring back a ball or toy. Our first tournament will be at Gap Farm on Nov 6th, hosted by the Kiveton Katapults! Everyone is REALLY looking forward to it. We have also entered our more experienced dogs, Mia, Inca, Jasmine and Roi, fingers crossed they do their team proud!
As we progress I will be adding more to the blog pages and letting everyone know how we are doing, its all very exciting!
