An excellent days racing overall, we were seeded third overall and came away with a second, really pleased with everyone and all the dogs!
This was to be Inca's first Open competition, it was indoor at a leisure centre and there was no way of telling how she would react. I took her in a few times before she raced so she could acclimatise herself and settle a bit, when the time came for us to go into the ring she was absolutely fine, which really surprised me! Once we were lined up she was dancing on the spot raring to go! (This may well have been down to the Damiana and Kola tablets from Dorwest Herbs)
We ran Mia start dog, Roi second, Jasmine third and Inca as last dog, so as not to put too much pressure on her. We also had Macdui as fifth dog on the team and he managed to do full runs in the warm ups. We had two races in the morning and won both of them, the first leg of the first race was a bit scary as a dog from another team came over to our lane while Inca was running, I was terrified it would totally freak her out, but it didn't, she got her ball and came back to me and got loads of praise! We had three races in the afternoon and Mia was beginning to tire, so we swapped her and Roi over and continued to race well, until Inca decided that SHE was going to interfere with another team, not sure if she was confused with changing lanes, but she came back to me and continued to race as normal. the fourth race of the day was against Rotherham Rockets, our old team, we knew we had no chance of beating them as they were running a full second faster than us, still we manged to take them to four legs! The last race of the day was against Ready 2 Fly, who were down to only two dogs, so we decided to put Macdui in to run as part of the team, he did great, ran out the first leg, but was sent again and did just fine, he then continued to run correctly for the next couple of legs, so big well done to him and Marie.
So so pleased with how the day went, Mia, Macdui and Inca are brand new to Open racing and have done the whole team proud!
