Well what a weekend we had! Finally after two cancelled tournaments, and numerous training sessions called off due to the abysmal weather we have been having, we were at last able to compete at a tournament and were all chomping at the bit to get our flyball fix!
We had four teams entered in total: 3 Open and 1 Starter. Saturday was a very busy day with three teams to run and a ring party!
First in the ring was Seekers: Winchester, Billy, Macdui and Tes, with Mia as reserve. During warm ups, for whatever reason Billy decided it was all too much and couldnt complete a leg, so we put mia in the team and they ran great, particularly pleased with Mac as he had been of sick for the last couple of weeks and it was going to be first day of running full height all day. He did brilliantly and didn't put a paw wrong all day! Billy managed to get his head together in the red lane, so at least we had an idea of what the problem was and how to work on it... The team having only run together twice now are coming on really nicely, dogs and handlers gelling beautifully and change-overs getting better every week. Seekers came away with a well deserved 1st!
Hunters were next in: Roxy, Ronnie, Kane and Honey. This team again are starting to bond well, no issues with any of the dogs, though Roxy, bless her is starting to realise that running in Open is really hard work... much more stamina work needed with her, but most importantly, just time, for her to adjust to such gruelling racing, I'm sure it wont be long before she is running a full day with ease. This team also did very well and came away with 2nd place!
Starters were next in, Paddy and Skye couldn't make the weekend, so we had spaces available which were taken by members of Leeds Owlers, so we had Mylo, Kai, Diva, Molly and Kim. Special mentions to Mylo for turning without aid AND catching the ball, definitely on the road to Open racing! Team came fourth, but all dogs ran very well and very happy with them all :)
Sunday we only had the one team in; Chasers, with Bracken, Jasmine, Roi and Inca. The beginning of the day did not look promising, all of the dogs averaging around 4.4 seconds, which isn't good! Change-overs weren't bad, but something just wasn't working, in the morning we only had two races, thankfully, of which we won one, lost one.
The afternoon the team came back with a brand new lease of life! We gave Rotherham a real run for their money and took them to five legs, but lost on lights! All dogs seemed much more consistent with Inca doing me especially proud by throwing in a whole bunch of 4.3's! Chasers were placed 3rd, which wasn't terrible at all, we were seeded third, so didn't really expect to get higher than that. Well done to all, now just need to work on keeping those times down!
