In all honesty this was not our greatest weekend results wise, however there were some great achievements from individual dogs, so overall Im still very happy with how things are going with the team!
Saturday we had Chasers and Starters in, starters were first up, with Billy running start dog, doing much better turns on the box. Mylo had gained even more confidence since his last tournament and was absolutely flying! Paddy had a much better day, having had a little scare at his last show, ran consistently all day, paw perfect. Skye had another successful day, no laps around the ring, turning well on the box, having a dog change into her and running fabulously all day. We also had one of our new members making their debut with us, Kai. Kai is an experienced starter dog, but lacks focus in the ring, he had a couple of moments where he was busy watching the other lane but overall did fantastically running with his new team mates! Sadly for the starter team they only managed third place, they had only lost one race all day, but so had two other teams, which left placings down to fastest time and our was the slowest.
Chasers was also debuting a new dog, Winchester, he did run well all day however he struggled with our box and did fumble quite a lot, I'm sure once he is used to our box he will start catching the ball more! Jasmine again ran well as start dog, though we didn't see any particularly fast times out of her, (averaging 4.4) so perhaps she is getting a little tired of being the team height dog and start dog! Roi was much better this weekend after all his fumbles last week. Inca ran the best she has ever run! Yes I am completely biased but she was a little superstar, running a best time of 4.28 and consistently running 4.4's, absolutely ecstatic with her!
Chasers only gained a 5th, we had a lot of mistakes during the day (most of them being lights from myself and Stinky, which makes a change!) and were also running against teams that were much faster than us, but a good day overall.
Sunday we only had one team in; Hunters, which was Kane, Ronnie, Macdui and Mia, they also came fifth, they ran fairly consistently, no big mistakes, changeovers were a little sporadic, but it just didn't seem to be their day. The highlight of the day however came when we decided to run Macdui as start dog, which meant hiding Kane (with four people surrounding him, so that Macdui couldn't see him and could concentrate on running start dog) then said people catching Mac to prevent him from circling Kane, and then Kane being lined up at the very last moment to run into Ronnie! It was hilarious, by far the strangest thing I have ever done at a flyball competition! Macdui ran the best he ever has putting in a 4.6 as start dog, so perhaps a rethink on the order is needed!
Monday was Multibreed day, with Nora (Leeds' Bearded Collie), Roi, Jasmine and Honey. The team placed first in their division with all dogs running well all day, but in particular for me, (again yes totally biased) was Honey also running the best she ever has, she was able to run last dog all day which seemed to cheer her up immensely and I also think she got a real boost out of shouting at Nora when lining up, Honey ran low 5's all day which she has never done before, so totally over the moon with her, it is of course yet to be seen if she continues the trend!
